If you haven’t heard the news, Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale recently decided it’s time to end their marriage of 13 years. At first the headlines left fans sad and confused – they’ve had one of those Hollywood romances that seemed to stand the test of time – including three beautiful children. So, hearing the news that they were going their separate ways was tough, especially since the couple was so quiet about it. But recently, Gwen has been opening up about the divorce and how the heartbreak is inspiring some of her best music yet.
“I wish that all this wasn’t happening, but it was part of my life journey. In my life I’ve had two really bad heartbreaks, but I’ve written some really incredible music out of it,” she said. “Because of my situation right now I feel like I go back and listen to a lot of that stuff and I get sick. You look at the song and go, that was a red flag and that was a moment where I was feeling just as bad as I do today and why did I keep it up?” (via US Weekly)
Despite what fans thought was a rock-solid marriage, it turns out things weren’t as great as they looked from the outside. Rossdale had an affair with one of the family nannies, and that was what caused Gwen to call it quits from the marriage. In an interview with The Tommy Show on 94.7 FM in Washington, DC, she said, she “can’t believe” the current state of things between her and her estranged husband. Even though it’s rocky and things have been tough, she really can see the positivity on the horizon. “There are so many bad things, oh my God. Like, I can’t even believe it, but, at the same time, there are lots of good things, and I do get to have a second chance, and I have a lot of joy right now.” (via US Weekly)
