Female Rockstars

“Girls invented punk, not England,” reads the shirt of that infamous picture of Kim Gordon. Yup, girls know how to rock and that’s no secret. There are plenty of female rock stars that know their way around a guitar, drum kit, or bass as well as any dude. I can enjoy the music that these ladies make any time of the day! I just pop in my headphones and dance around to some Blondie without shame! Are you a fan of female rock stars? Check out some of my favorites below.

Kim Gordon- Kim Gordon was a member of Sonic Youth who rocked out just as well as the boys. She and husband Thurston Moore, who was also a member of the band are still married. She recently released a book called Girl In The Band.

Debbie Harry- Debbie Harry is a babe all her own and lead singer of Blondie, one of my favorite bands. You may know quite a few of her most notable songs, like Call Me and Heart Of Glass.

Gwen Stefani- Gwen started out as the lead of her band, No Doubt. The group skyrocketed to fame in the late nineties and early 2000s. Later, she came out with her own solo album, and these days is a rock star turned mega designer.

Janis Joplin- Joplin started in the sixties with a brassy, blues voice and a big personality. Sadly, she died in 1970 from a drug overdose.

Joan Jett- Joan Jett started out with her all-girl band, The Runaways, in order to move on to front her own band, Joan Jett and The Blackhearts. She’s known as rock and roll royalty these days.

Stevie Nicks- Stevie Nicks is the White Witch and I con not help but love her for it. As the female lead in Fleetwood Mac, she had a part in making one of the biggest albums known today, Rumors. She later went solo but now tours with Fleetwood Mac around the country.
