Jet lag is no joke! I travel so much throughout the year and I rely on the following tips to keep me jet lag-free. Stay tuned for the next installment of this series on how to beat jet lag, focused on hydration and relaxation.
How to Beat Jet Lag: Style, Sleep + Sweat Edition
Style
Dress for comfort without sacrificing style. Choose some trendy sneakers that you can slip on and off easily to get through security and kick off when you get on the airplane.
Athleisure is the definition of style and comfort in one look, and therefore perfect for travel. Choose some lightweight yoga pants in a neutral color like black or gray and pair with a solid colored short sleeved cotton top. Finish off your look with an oversized blanket scarf you can wear for style purposes before your flight and use functionally as a blanket in flight. If you are prone to getting cold, bring along a sweater as well in the same color palette as your overall outfit for a chic and consistent travel look.
Being comfortable on a flight is key to helping you relax and be able to sleep, which is my #1 in-flight tip for how to beat jet lag.
Sleep
Once you’ve kicked off your shoes and are cozy with your dual-purpose scarf-and-blanket combo, pop on a silk eye mask and drift off to dreamland. If you can’t fall asleep that easily, try some melatonin or bring your own tea bags on board. When the beverage cart comes around, get some hot water and brew a nice, hot cup of tea to help you relax.
Sweat
Once you get to your final destination, stop by the hotel gym, or walk around a nearby park to get in a good sweat session. You can even powerwalk around the hotel floor you are staying on. That being said, outdoor exercise is ideal due to the fresh air after being cooped up on a plane with recycled, dry air. Make sure to stretch or do some yoga to counteract the lack of leg room and cramped quarters from your plane ride.
