Did you happen to catch this year’s Emmy awards? Loaded with all the annual red carpet glory, there was also something pretty powerful about  the awards – the speeches. While some actors get up there and simply thank, others use it as a moment to encourage and inspire – and this year was no different. From Viola Davis to Jill Soloway, there were some lovely and inspirational words. She is the first African American woman to win this award and, this emotional speech left nearly everyone in tears. Starting with a quote from Harriet Tubman, her words were encouraging and inspiring to anyone, especially women of color, trying to reach their goals.

American Crime’s Regina King, Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Limited Series or a Movie

With nearly nothing prepared for her speech, her genuine appreciation for the award was incredibly evident. She was heartfelt and encouraging, spotlighting her mother and grandmother.

Olive Kitteridge’s Frances McDormand, Outstanding Lead Actress in a Limited Series or a Movie

Keeping it short and sweet, Frances McDormand’s recognition of the story actors tell was lovely, a class act and pretty inspiring.

Transparent’s Jill Soloway, Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series

Making sure to add an inspiring and significant message into her speech, Jill Soloway focused on the trans community. She urged the crowd to help pass the trans equality bill by checking out transequality.com.
