Young Women Are Diagnosed with Skin Cancer More Than Ever Before

As so many doctors have pointed out over the years, no amount of tan is healthy and the only way to really get that glow you love is do it the safe way. Otherwise, you are accelerating your risk of expose and damage to the skin. 

Melanoma, the deadliest type of skin cancer causing 9,400 deaths each year in the United States, has increased eightfold since 1970 for women 40 and under.

Young Women Are Diagnosed with Skin Cancer More Than Ever Before

Fair skin, family history of skin cancer and tanning bed usage are also attributing factors to your likelihood of developing melanoma, basal cell carcinoma or squamous cell carcinoma.

Dr. Jerry Brewer of the Mayo Clinic told skin cancer survivor Emma Fitzsimmons that it is increasingly common to find young women diagnosed with skin cancer five or 10 years later rather that 40 years down the road. While Emma herself never hit the tanning salon, over 20 million people do every year, and that means skin cancer is no longer an older person’s problem.
