Not everyone needs to glam up for the gym to get a good workout in…but it really never hurts your motivation to look good while doing so. If you’re tired of your go-to bun or pony tail options, then switch it up with these swept-up, out-of-your-face looks that will keep you looking polished and poised even if you’re otherwise straining to get your fitness on. A few pins in the right places will have you ready to go in minutes.
Hairstyle Ideas for the Gym
1. For a very simple look that’s easy to accomplish in seconds, try a loose, side-swept braid. Part hair on the side and braid low, near the nape of the neck. Secure with a thin hair tie at the end. Then add a detail, like this shimmery headband, to keep your bangs in place while adding some personality to your look.
2. If long bangs tend to get the better of you when you’re moving around (try doing yoga without getting tresses in your face), then try braiding them and pinning them up and away. Sweep the rest of your hair back in a pony tail or a low chignon for ballerina-style grace.
3. For the ladies who have long, thick hair to worry about, try a high braided pony tail. Sweep hair up and tie at the crown of your head. Before braiding, leave a loose strand of hair aside to later wrap around your hair tie. Braid the rest of your hair as usual. Then secure the loose strand with a bobby pin by looping it around until it covers your elastic. Finish up the look with a light spritz of hair spray to keep it in place.
4. Trying your hand at a braid crown may seem a little tricky at first, so be sure to check out this easy tutorial before completely forgoing it. It may seem complicated, but it’s an easy fix that adds a pretty, feminine touch to your arsenal of workout ‘do’s.
5. This particular braided bun style works even for ladies with short hair – just add a sock bun and cover/pin it with your own hair to have a perfectly symmetrical (and full) top knot. Leaving aside a strand for braiding, pull hair up at the crown of the head and secure with a thin hair tie into a pony tail. Leave a strand aside for braiding. Then apply the sock bun and pin or simply twist hair into a bun. Braid the leftover strand and twist around the bun. Secure with pins and finish with hair spray to make sure it holds.
