When Your Relationship Makes You Doubt Yourself

We get so good at hitting the snooze button on relationships that tear down our self-worth. Holding off on what has become a detrimental to our self-esteem and keeping it around because of a unfulfilled need, a want, or worse a fear. Fear that you cannot truly control how others see you. The fear that you others will focus on your past and not your future. The fear that unfortunately, your mate has chosen to do the same. But when that future seems more like a question mark even to you, you ask why I am not good enough.

Too often we consume ourselves with anxiety about how others perceive us, ultimately living in a state of “If I only did this, then he will think of me this way.”  We overlook everything but the truth that staying in the current situation hurts just as much as the fear of the future and the devastation of your past.

When that doubt consumes you ideally, it should be your mate there to pick you up, make you feel better about yourself inside and out. They are there to push you harder and be your cheerleader. Unfortunately, sometimes it’s our mates that make us feel less than up to par. When that begins to happen you can try to figure out what life altering occurrence has happened to cause such a shift in the way they make you feel or you can do what you need to for you to uplift yourself. Try herb therapy (series of herbs that uplift your mood) or just walk away from that which makes you doubt you.

The reality is that love isn’t supposed to devalue your sense of self or be full of fear. Whomever you’re with should accept you and your changes as you should them. When you decide to be in a committed relationship you’re deciding to accept your boyfriend/girlfriend for all that they aren’t, all that they are, and all that they can be and that can only be when you respect one another. You have to be strong enough to not let others, or a new job, or things allow your appreciation for your mate to fade.

At the end of the day you are the only person who holds the key to your self-worth and in order to feel good enough no matter the situation you must first feel confident in you.
