5 Kids Books Every Adult Should Read

In honor of the back-to-school season, I’ve decided to celebrate a simpler approach to life and all of its conundrums. Sometimes, in the midst of all the craziness our adult lives have to offer, the best thing anyone can do is go back to a simpler perspective. Few things are as simple and honest as the point of view of a child. If you feel the need to reconnect with your innocence and look at things in a simpler way, here are some books that can help take you there. If you find yourself over-thinking, pick up one of these and take it back to when things were much simpler.

5 Kids Books Every Adult Should Read

  1. “Oh, The Places You’ll Go” by Dr. SeussLife doesn’t come with instructions, but if it did, it might go something like this. This book is a classic that makes a perfect gift for high school and college grads.
  2. “Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day” by Judith ViorstWe all have bad days, and sometimes even really terrible days. But this book reminds us that there’s always tomorrow and this, too, shall pass.
  3. “Eloise” by Kay ThompsonSometimes we need to remind ourselves of the wonder that lies within the ordinary. Eloise tromps through her life in a most glamorous way while living at The Plaza Hotel in New York, celebrating herself with the kind of self esteem most adults can only dream of.
  4. “The Story of Ferdinand” by Munro LeafIt’s hard not to become endeared by Ferdinand, a bull that would rather stop and smell the roses than fight in the ring, leaving us all chewing on the concept that there’s always a choice in how we handle tough situations – and fighting is hardly the answer.
  5. “The Little Red Hen” by Byron BartonThis classic tale of the little red hen with an incredible work ethic and strong will to succeed despite not having the support of others is a timeless lesson everyone can take to heart.

Do you have any favorites that take you back to your grade school days? I’d love to hear which ones you think should be on this list!
