Make journaling part of your routine. Pick a time to sit down and journal each day to help make journaling become a daily habit. Ask yourself what the best time of day will work? For many people waking up and journaling almost immediately will help you get started. Try writing down your dreams or whatever you can remember about your dreams. This is an excellent way to get the writing flowing. If you’re more of an evening journalist, you’ll have lots to write about after a full day at work or with your family and friends. Bottom line, make journaling work for you and your schedule.

What can you think about that will help you just write? Skip all the critique, self-editing and anything in-between and simply sit down and write. Don’t even look back to reread, just let the words flow in a stream of consciousness style. Ask yourself how you feel about the day, what you think when it comes to big decisions you need to make and what’s holding you back from living your dreams and chasing your passions.

  • Why are you stalled?
  • What do you need to give you that little push to take that next big leap of faith?
  • What do you want from your career that feels like it’s missing?
  • Who inspires you and why?

What’s the best spot for you to do your writing? Do you love sitting in bed in the morning to get your journaling done or are you more of a coffee shop style writer? Maybe curling up on the couch is the best spot for you or perhaps a quick trip to the park for some writing in the sun. Whatever it is, finding that perfect spot is just what you need to help get the words flowing.

Remember, writing in a journal is all for you. It’s your private place to let your innermost thoughts come out of your head and onto the paper. You don’t have to share your journal with anyone, in fact, it should be one of your most cherished and personal items. So what do you think of these journaling tips? Can you use some of these questions as a guide to help channel your inner writer?
