Everything You Need to Know About the Platinum Blonde Trend

We’ve seen it on all the “it” girls lately, from Kim Kardashian to Gwen Stefani, platinum blonde is a major trend and one that doesn’t seem to be going anywhere anytime soon. It’s a gorgeous shade, the ultimate blonde; and almost white look that’s got silvery undertones; it almost looks like an angel kissed your locks. It’s beautiful, but many of us are wondering, if could we pull it off.

In a recent Glamour article, the latest lady to add platinum blonde to her repertoire is Bella Thorne, and she looks hawt! Take a peek:

Here’s what Glamour had to say, “Sure, we’ve seen her with various takes on this shade in the past—if you’ve forgotten amid all the changes, she’s a natural blond—but this particular color is very of the moment and very Targaryen. It’s that cool, piercing, almost-white silver blond everyone from Katy Perry to Ariana Grande’s gotten this year. She posted a photo to Instagram yesterday of the new color, along with the caption, “Yes I changed my hair again and yes I’m fuxin 20!!! Let’s go Libras met so many people last night that had the same bday as me ❤️ it was awesome. Happy bday guys!!!””

So what’s the deal with the platinum trend? Let’s start by talking maintenance because it’s got to be tough to keep up those locks. Unless your natural color is already blonde, you’ll have to be pretty prepared for roots as soon as your hair starts growing. Which, for many of us – is right away! In other words, you may be getting back into the salon chair for dye jobs on a weekly basis. That sounds pretty time consuming and very pricey, wouldn’t you agree? If you happen to have natural blonde locks, this platinum look probably won’t be as difficult for you to achieve and won’t have the same time of upkeep a darker brunette would face. So, maybe this is the look for you!

Here’s my advice: talk to your stylist. Have an honest convo about you and platinum.

  • How will this light color look with your skin tone?
  • How many rounds of treatments will it take before you reach that platinum color?
  • What’s the cost associated with it?
  • How long will it last?
  • Will it do damage to my hair?

There’s a lot to think about when going platinum blonde. For many, it’s a pretty drastic change and one that can look amazing, but also has the potential to go very wrong. Weigh all your options carefully and listen to the advice of your stylist. Would you consider giving this bold trend a try?
