November 15th, 2012

Getting up in front of a room full of people can be one of the most exhilarating experiences you’ll ever have. Knowing that you delivered an great presentation will make it even better. I have given hundreds if not thousands over the last 20 years (with another coming up for Market Taiwan Convention!) and even the people who give presentations day in and day out can use a little help. Here’s what I think are the best 5 characteristics of an incredible presentation.

5 Characteristics of an Incredible Presentation

  • Images + Text: Giving the audience something to look at can mean the difference between keeping the group engaged and some folks daydreaming a bit. Visual aids help the audience interpret the message you are trying to deliver. Remember this: keep it simple.
  • A fluid approach. Keeping the presentation on the move is key to keeping the audience engaged. Changing slides and staying animated will help the group follow along.
  • Questions + Answers: Enticing audience participation is huge in keeping them involved. Asking questions and inviting commentary will stir conversation and interaction.
  • Be a storyteller: Intertwining the art of the story into your presentation may be the key to keeping your audience entertained.
  • Mix in a little showmanship: It’s ok – you can get a little dramatic when you’re on stage, it’ll keep your audience on their toes! Your energy will set the tone.

That’s what makes a good presentation! Anything to add?
