Do you love yourself as much as you claim to? You might, it turns out, not love yourself at all. But that’s okay because the beauty of being self-aware is that you can always change. Keep reading for five signs you don’t love yourself, and how to remedy that ASAP.

5 Signs You Don’t Love Yourself (And How to Start)

1. You Become Angry with Yourself Whenever You Make a Mistake.

Mistakes are natural and part of learning and growing throughout life. Don’t beat yourself up. Be kind to yourself and nurture your growth process.

2. Your Criticize Everything About Yourself, from Your past to Your Personality to Your Appearance.

Make a list of what you love about yourself. Focus on magnifying those feelings of love, while working on the parts of you that you don’t like. Watch YouTube tutorials to slay your makeup game, see a therapist to work through anger issues, or find a new hobby that makes you excited to wake up in the morning.

3. You Don’t Speak up for Yourself and Advocate for Your Best Interests.

As humans, we are naturally selfish beings, so we need to raise our hands and speak out when something is amiss, instead of hoping someone else will say something. Take charge of your life and your destiny.

4. Your Self-Care Is Lacking.

Are you binge-eating junk food, forgetting to go to the bathroom, and wearing the same t-shirt three days in a row? Make sure what you put into your body is fuel, and you are taking care to shower and look presentable. Sometimes this may be exhausting, but you will feel better when you look put together. If you’re having trouble getting out of bed and can’t shake the funk on your own, look into professional help. Therapy is a huge form of self-care and self-love.

5. You Think Your Dreams Are out of Reach and Will Never Come True.

We might never have some of the world’s most revolutionary inventions – from sliced bread to rock and roll to Instagram – if people didn’t take a chance on themselves and their dreams. We are all born with skin, blood, and bones. It’s what we choose to make of ourselves that matters. And finding the love in your heart to love yourself is a great way to start.
