4 Ways to Celebrate International Day of the Girl

international day of the girls

Women’s empowerment and protection is a human rights issue. We have come a long way in the protection of girls across the globe, but we still have a long way to go. Until every girl has the same freedoms and protections granted to men, we will not stop speaking up and speaking out for those who cannot. This year, on October 11th, stand alongside the women of the world and lift them up in strength and celebration on International Day of the Girl.

Do you want to support the girls and women in your life? Check out some of my ideas below on how to amplify women the world over on International Day of the Girl:

#1. Make #MeToo a Thing of the Past.

Donate your time, money or resources to bolstering a female-focused organization, like the Malala Fund, Planned Parenthood, the National Organization for Women, or Time’s Up. Feel good knowing you’re making a positive difference in the lives of women everywhere.

#2. Education Is the Great Equalizer.

But more than that, knowledge is soul-filling and immeasurably important for confidence building. Volunteer to help girls in your community write their college application essays. Help them cultivate their unique story and make it shine for the university admissions offices.

#3. Share Your Heart and Your Experience.

Be a mentor to a young woman and help her blaze a trail in the world. Be kind and uplifting and offer the advice you needed to hear as you were growing and learning on your own.

#4. No One Has Ever Become Poor by Giving.

Go through your closet and donate any suits or items you no longer need to a local women’s shelter. Help women looking to get back on their feet feel confident during an interview while they look their best.
