Dwayne Johnson Premieres “Baywatch” in Miami
May 17th, 2017
There’s no one who can possibly love Miami more than I do, except for maybe Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson (and maybe Pitbull but that’s a whole other story)! So it comes as no surprise that Dwayne chose the Magic City to host the worldwide premiere of his latest film “Baywatch.” He was joined by co-stars Zac Efron, Priyanka Chopra, Alexandra Daddario, Kelly Rohrbach, Jon Bass and Ilfenesh Hadera.
The film, based on the popular television series with the same name, tells the story of devoted lifeguard Mitch Buchannon (Johnson) as he butts heads with a brash new recruit (Efron). Together, they uncover a local criminal plot that threatens the future of the Bay.
Although former lead actor David Hasselhoff attended the event, he is making news because he seems to have slammed the big screen adaptation. He told the U.K. outlet The Mirror, “It’s funny, it’s pushing the envelope, but it’s not Baywatch – and I say that with a great amount of respect but a great amount of work that I put into Baywatch,” he said. “I think they said, ‘We have the rights to do Baywatch and we’re gonna do it our way – and everything else is the highway’. I had to accept that. It’s either cry about it and watch it on TV or get in there and do what I can to make my moment. I saw the movie and I said, ‘This is gonna make a lot of money – but it’s still not Baywatch’. You can’t re-create David Hasselhoff.”
Another familiar face on the red carpet was David’s former co-star Pamela Anderson who played CJ Parker in the original. Rohrback, who is taking over the role in the film, admits to feeling pressure because she “didn’t want to disappoint.”
“The role of CJ Parker is one everyone knows and is beloved, so obviously I didn’t want to disappoint the fan base that comes with the show, and I think we didn’t,” Rohrbach told Fox News. “We did a great job of taking a dramatic TV show and making it a comedic show. We brought a fresh take to it, which is more comedic in tone, and a little more sexy and spicy,” she added. “[It has] a little more sass, so I think you guys will enjoy that.”
“Baywatch” opens in theaters on May 25.
